Memories of School: Great time especially playing sport
Moved to Britain in 1963.
I joined Blackheath Harriers and my personal best times were as follows:
100yards 9.9sec
220yards 22.2sec
400 metres 48.2sec
800 metres 1min 52.2sec
1 mile 3 min 59.7 sec
400 metres hurdles 53.7sec
Decathlon 5,634 points
The athletics got me a job with Lloyds Bank and I ran all over Europe for the Bank against
other Banks. Great life until you get married and need to look at your career prospects.
Moved to an American Bank for loads more money but work very boring.
Decided a job in charge of Student Sport at Birmingham University would be more interesting.
After two years, Scott arrived and without Anne's wage it was very tight. I moved to London to
run a large Leisure Centre - again loads of money.
Then Charlotte was born. I was concerned that I would miss the children growing up because with
travelling into London the hours were very long.
My mother and father retired to Dover and on a visit, we were walking along the seafront and
people stopped us to ask us if we knew where they could find Bed & Breakfast Accommodation.
After a while we looked for the egg stains. We decided that a guest house would
give us a better quality of life - ours was the Amanda Guest House.
I could go to sports days, attend schools plays, etc. I have no regrets and the 21 years have
raced by.
I have time to organise events in Dover Town. I am the Master of the
Dover Pageant.
I have set up the website www.kenya63.org.uk if anyone cares to visit it.
